Debate Challenge to the Liberal National Party

It is 100 days until the next election.

There is an important national political debate for the election. And we need a local one too.

Brisbane’s Southside has a right to know what both sides have to offer by way of action for local residents and plans for the future.

This includes local transport, broadband services, investment in local schools, in health and hospitals, small business and employment and community services.

So I am challenging Tony Abbott’s handpicked candidate to a debate in our community for any night he chooses next week.

The Courier Mail can provide the moderator, select the venue at a local school hall, ensure there are an equal provision of audience seats for each side.

I believe that 100 days from the election, we need to scrutinise the actions and alternative plans for our local community.

This would be a crucial debate. A fair debate. Facilitated by the Courier Mail.

It is 100 days before the election. Mr Glasson has been endorsed for 9 months. If the Liberal National Party’s Candidate is not ready to debate his ideas, then he is not ready to represent this community.

I see Mr Abbott is in Griffith on Friday night at a fundraiser for his hand-picked candidate.

If Mr Glasson is not prepared to participate in a debate, then he can bring along Mr Abbott or Premier Newman to help him, or as a substitute.

  2. This is another great idea, Mr Rudd!
You are an inspiration to many and to some can be seen as a 'visionary' for your pivotal role in government during the years of your leadership. Shaping Australia's history for the benefit of all is what a responsible and forthright PM should do (unlike what any plausible Liberal candidate represents; specifically the dilatory boffins like Mr Abbott currently insulting honest Australians).
    Thank you.

  3. A suggestion for the debate, a good proportion of Tony Abbott's campaign seems to revolve around repealing the carbon tax. Why has no-one put him on the spot to guarantee that if he does it, all the price increases that he attributed to it will go back to their pre-carbon tax levels.

I bet his answer will not be "yes" . . .

  4. Can't even bring yourself to put "Labour" on your website. Get back in your box your just a Queensland backbencher. The only reason your government isn't the worst in Australia's history is because Gillard unbelievably has done even more damage. You have to be one of the most deluded men ever in Australian political history, bring on Sept 14 Clean up Australia Day so this trash can finally be thrown out!

  5. You are at it again. Once more you are trying to destabilise for your own personal gain. You may have been a good campaigner but you proved that you were not up to the job of Prime Minister. You are a back bencher now, stay in your own electorate. All you are managing to do is lose votes for Labor. I have voted labor all my adult life and if Julia Gillard is forced from her position by fools who govern according to the polls then I will not vote for labor at the next election.

    1. If you truly are Labor you will follow the WILL OF THE PEOPLE! People WANT Rudd back. Gillard is a selfish egotistical sociopath who is destablising the Australian Labor Party because she is so power-hungry she will do ANYTHING to cling to the title - even if it means she takes down 35+ members with her. Never has there been a more vicious, spiteful, vindictive, mean-spirited and selfish politician. Politics is about PEOPLE, not just policies. You can have all the policies in the world but if people HATE AND LOATHE THE SELLER, it won't do us any good. We NEED Kevin and any fool who can't see that has NO RIGHT to call themselves a LABOR supporter. So good riddance to you, you traitor and pretender!

I can't stand you. Every time I see you simpering face on TV all I want to do is stamp on it until it looks like strawberry jam with bones.

  9. Privilege to be in a place where you can write to your former Prime Minister your two cents of thought!

Given your sincere intent, expressed and implicit is
    a) to get the government reelected in September
    b) to give your 100% support to Prime Minister Gillard in achiving the same under her leadership

why not demonstrate this unity of thought and your sincere support by a joint Q and A session witht he Prime Minister
    - you may both be surprised how much you have in common in wanting to do it right by the party and the people of Australia.
    - this might pave the way to kill the oxgen in the media diverted away from the scrutiny of Abott and his lack of vision
    - this might further pave the way to synergise your strengths with the direction set by the government into closing those margins and who knows we may pull it off in September!

    Lookibng forward to the QandA

I am sending this message to both the Prime minister, Qand A team and the ALP office.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Kevin, you are the last and only hope that I would still vote for the ALP in the next election. As a swinging voter, I believe that If the ALP as a party is not smart enough to elect you leader, then they deserve their inevitable defeat. I personally will be voting for the Libs, not because I like Tony Abbott, but because Gillard does not deserve to be PM and the ALP do not deserve to be in power.

Why? Because those supporting Gillard have completely misread what the public wants. The public wants YOU to lead the ALP: just look at the polls. You can articulate a vision for the nation, Gillard just tries to catch wind of the issue of the day. Her supporters should realise that every-time they take a swipe at you, they are actually taking a swipe at the public and their political aspirations. When her supporters knifed you in the back, they knifed the Australian public who supported you, in the back also.

Her continuous instances on playing the gender card speaks volumes about the strategy (or lack of) going on inside her office. Don't her advisors realise that the reason her "misogyny" speech gave her a boost in the polls, wasn't because of the content, but it was the first and until this day, the ONLY time she has spoken passionately about... well actually anything!? Her misogyny speech, was the first time she has ever acted Prime ministerial and looked she stood and believed in something! I don't know that Gillard stands for anything.

So her supporters can criticise you, and blame you, all you want for their demise. If you coming out in the media, and being a top political performer in the media light creates leadership speculation for Gillard: that's frankly her own problem, not yours. If she was strong enough as a Prime Minister and strong enough of a political performer: it should be IRRELEVANT what a back bencher like you has to say in the media.

Latham criticising you recently is just an idiot... nothing more than tall poppy syndrome. His claim to fame is taking the ALP to an overwhelming and conclusive defeat against Howard. He's just jealous that you, your vision, and your performance gave spark back to the ALP, something he could never achieve. Maybe one day he will realise that all successful people have an "ego".

You should be proud of yourself Kev. Keep being yourself, keep getting out there. The public want you as our leader for this nation (God help us with Tony Abbott). But if the ALP don't smarten up fast, the majority of Australians are going to vote for the Libs and teach the ALP a lesson in politics called: listen to what the public want, it's called democracy remember!?

All the best Kevin. As Will I Am says: Don't care what the haters think, they're only hatin cause you're doing what they can't!

  11. So Rudd. Are you having fun with all of this?

Are you honestly saying you can't pick out a tie for yourself? How old are you? How long have you been wearing ties? Hard to believe.

Feel bad for Gillard. Seems like a decent person.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can't be serious! Kevin was already dressed BEFORE Gillard made the blue tie comment. So it stands to reason that Gillard made the comment KNOWING what Rudd was wearing. The question is, is GILLARD having fun with all this, sticking the boot in a good decent man? Gillard is an evil spiteful bitch who will stoop at nothing to gain power and keept power even if it means waging a vendetta against Kevin and mocking his ties. She is an evil bitch and a lowlife piece of shit and I cannot wait until she is gone on September 14.

Former Prime Ministers try to get backbenchers re-elected on the coat tails of their popularity all the time by joining them in campaigning... this is not new. The opinion polls have destabilised Gillard and the media are simply focussed on the most logical replacement for Gillard.

Kevin has already ruled out a return, people need to stop blaming Kevin for Julia's problems, which are for the most part like that ridiculous abortion speech self-inflicted.

Julia Gillard is an embarrassment to Australian women. How could we admire her for being a shameful cheat. Australia's first female prime minister...I think not, thanks.

If you want to be Labor MP's in Government, not Opposition, you'd better chat around this weekend and dump Julia on Monday, so we can settle down and vote for you instead of the Greens or someone or just no-one!

    1. With respect, Anonymous, Julia Gillard has become a shining example of strength and resilience. I hope all Australian women take heart from her courage and strength in the face of the three years of sexist abuse and leadership destabilisation she has endured.

The best outcome we could hope for after September would be another hung parliament, where power is shared between Labor, Liberal (with Malcolm Turnbull as leader), National Party, The Greens and the Independents. In an ideal world, Tony Windsor and Rob Oakshot will be there to provide integrity, sanity and wisdom.

  14. Dear Kevin,
I hope you read this. The sexist and misogynistic abuse of our first woman Prime Minister is uppermost in the minds of many decent Australians. Including me. I am now appealing to you, as a fellow decent Australian, to put leadership ambition aside, and add your voice to those who are appalled by the treatment Julia Gillard has received. You have access to media and have every opportunity to do so. The destabilising of the leadership has left the Labor party in a vulnerable state. The best you could do is play a decisive role in defending the achievements not only of the period of the Rudd Government but most importantly now, the achievements of the Gillard Government.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Give me a break. Gillard doesn't deserve a free kick simply because she is a woman. Gillard showed her true self when she criticised men in blue ties. Imagine if Tony Abbott had said "watch out for those women in floral dresses"... there would have been outrage. Gillard plays the gender card at every opportunity yet says sexists remarks herself. She's an absolute hypocrite.

  15. Hi Kevin,

The debate is a grand idea. If you get the chance to do it, I am sure you can highlight the differences between the current government and the would be government.

But there is something far more important you can do. The single biggest thing you can do to protect Australia and your community from an Abbot government is challenge for the leadership of your own party.

Julia has been an outstanding prime minister. However, if she remains it is clear that the labour party is facing a loss of epic proportions. There is only one way to stop this.

I'm led to believe that you waiting to be pressed into service by your colleges. The time for waiting has passed. If you have anywhere near the numbers, you must act now. There is too much at stake for any other course of action.

I know that it might be too late for even you to stop an Abbot victory, but please whatever else you do don't let him win by default.

If Tony is able to cruise to a substantial majority without even having to talk about his plans for the nation he will have a mandate to do as he pleases.

I'm a Queenslander like your self and am now living through the first term of a Newman government that was basically elected unopposed. I can only imagine the double whammy when Abbot and Newman are playing tag team.

    Regards,
    Paul

Why do people believe Kevin Rudd was a good Prime Minister?, he was a shambles, an egotist, a micromanager and spent his time berating his front bench, why do you all think they can't stand him, they couldn't work with him that's why, do any of you know Julia Gillard? it shows the character of the woman that she has never come out and said why Rudd was deposed, Rudd wants Abbott in as revenge, and by your support of Rudd you are handing it to him, and heaven help this country if that's the case, I urge everyone to read Independent Australia, to get some idea of what we can expect from an LNP government

Last night, 26.6.2013, I was embarrassed to be an Australian. With you at the top I remain highly embarrassed. 22. What's happening in Australia as the Labour Party and the Liberal Party move towards the election, reminds me of the 1948 Presidential Election in the US.

Truman, the Democratic President, stood against Dewey, the Republican candidate. The Democratic Party was hopelessly split and everyone and their dog said Dewey was going to win in a landslide. Dewey's advisers told him that all he had to do was avoid risks and he would romp home. So Dewey ran a bland campaign and ignored Truman. There was only one person in the US who came out publicly and said Truman had a chance, and that was Truman himself. And Truman won. And the Democrats won the Congress and the Senate.

Has Abbott's advisers trapped him into the Dewey mistake?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dear Mr Rudd,
As you WERE elected our Prime Minister in 2007 democratically by the people of Australia, please postpone the Election as long as possible to ensure true Democracy takes place, to ensure you and your party have adequate time to prepare and all parties are prepared so Australians can make a informed decision and all parties have fair public media exposure..
I am a Greens voter who cares for our Envronment, under no circumstances do I want the Liberal Government in power in our Country.
I am fully aware of the underhanded tactics of the Liberal oppostion party with regards to our socalled Democratic Election.
    Regards,
