Statement on the retirement of Senator Trish Crossin
Senator Trish Crossin has been a tireless community
servant for the people of the Northern Territory over decades.
I take this opportunity to particularly thank Senator
Crossin for her work on reconciliation, the rights of indigenous Australians
and the need for appropriate and well-funded community health services.
I also pay tribute to her as the first female elected to
the Federal Parliament from the Northern Territory and as chair of the Status
of Women Caucus committee for a number of years.
There is no doubt that being a Senator for the Northern
Territory is one of the toughest jobs in the Commonwealth.
As a former Prime Minister and Leader of the Labor Party
I thank Trish for her tireless work in the 2007 Federal Election in promoting
Labor’s election platform in both Solomon and Lingiari. Trish has also been a
friend of mine for many years and has hosted me at events throughout the
Northern Territory.
I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Crossin
for the remainder of her time in the Senate and I wish Trish, her husband Mark
and their family all the best for the future.

ReplyDeleteTrish Crossin didn’t retire; she was dumped because she is white, as simple as that.
ReplyDeleteReverse discrimination is okay if you are "white" and you are the senator that supported Kevin Rudd against Julia Gillard.
To use the term "Captain's Pick" is an insult to anyone who has ever led a team (or a company of soldiers).
ReplyDeleteThis despicable woman is not a captain pick, she is a totalitarian dictator who is only worried about staying at the lodge a little bit longer. This hypocrite said KRudd was totalitarian and made decisions on hos own. An what is she, may I ask? She has disgraced this country and every member or the labor party should think very hard and get rid of her as soon as possible.
