In 2008, I was proud to announce an Australian Government commitment of $151 million through a national reform program aimed at to boosting the number of organ and tissue donors and improving hospitals’ capacity and capability to perform organ transplants.
As a result, 309 organ donors saved the lives of 931 Australians in 2010. These were the highest donation and transplantation outcomes since national records began.
As a donor recipient myself, It is encouraging to see so many more Australians able to receive life saving surgery.
Closer to home, we have Donatelife staff working across the PA and Mater Hospitals. Donatelife Queensland is working with hospitals across the State to provide professional donation services and maximise organ donation rates.
This campaign aims to encourage Australian families to discuss and know each other’s organ and tissue donation wishes.
